Booked by 3, September Edition

Keeping Your Place

1. Do you use bookmarks? (If no, continue to question 2.)

  • What do you use?
  • What is the most unusual bookmark you've ever used?
  • Do you collect them?

2. If you don't use bookmarks, how do you keep your place?
  • Fold over corners?
  • Remember the page you were up to?
  • Other?

3. Where do you like to stop reading?
  • At the end of chapters?
  • At the end of scenes?
  • Wherever you are when you doze off?
As usual, I'll post my answers in a couple of days. Leave your answers in the comments, or put them on your blog and leave a link here in the comments so I (and other folks) can go read them.

Good questions; I always wonder about other people's habits.

I use pictures and postcards as bookmarks, and I have been known to dogear pages if I can't find another way to keep my place. Sometimes I try to just remember the page number, but that never works. :)

    I stop reading whenever I doze off. Doesn't matter where. I read til I can't anymore. :)

I use bookmarks. I have a wad of them rubber-banded that sit in the nightstand drawer, which is usually where I start reading/read - in bed. I collect them in the sense that I've had many for years; we did a special group fo them for Bouchercon in 1994 and some of THOSE still surface. I have some GREAT ones from ALA about Banned Books (it's that time again folks) and as I go to mystery conventions, I end up with stacks of them, as they're used as advertising. I have quotes, i have images of people reading, I will NEVER run out.
I stop reading when I want to; wherever I am, when I realize Im sleepy, doesn't matter. I often try to finish the chapter, but if I do I'm probably not remembering what I read anyway, so I just stop. And I admit to thiking that people who turn down corners are bad and evil (ok not really but it DOES make me cringe); sorry to all of you corner-turners out there.

  6. Hi, Danielle,
Thanks for playing. I read your answers on your blog, but couldn't see where to leave comments.

Adrienne, I'm glad you got a Blogger account so you could answer. I got a LiveJournal account so I could read entries by friends that were "Friends Only" and got hooked on it and moved my writing blog over there. I'll go look at your answers. :)
