Booked by 3: December Edition

My, how time flies. I got involved moving my AOL photoblog to Blogger and doing some tutorials for other folks moving from AOL to Blogger after the ads on AOL journals brouhaha, and lost track of time.

Some questions befitting the holiday season and end of year.

1. Books/Magazines as gifts.

  • Do you give them?
  • Do you get them?
  • If you've gotten any as gifts, do you have a favorite?

2. End of Year Stats

  • Most books read in a year?
  • Least number of books read in a year?
  • Average number of books read in a year?

3. Any reading material on your wish list this year?

My answers in a couple of days. Leave your answers in the comments, or leave a link to where we can find your answers. And thanks to all of you who have played Booked by 3 this year.

I seldom get/give books as gifts. Not because I don't love books - none of us woiuld be reading this if we didn't - but because i don't know what most folks have or don't have. Two exceptions; my partner Stu, the Sherlockian, got the Les Klinger Annotated Holmes for his birthday this year. Actually, I was all set for Hannukah too, until the follow-up book showed up as a review copy. "Look what I have for you honey!" Leaving me, of course, stuck for a gift for Stu.
Some years ago my sister asked for a book and I was so excited as it was a mystery by a close friend and I was (swoon) one of the folks it was dedicated to. Whoa.
I can't recall if I've EVER received a book as a gift, isn't that weird?
As for numbers, I don't keep statistics, i don't keep track and apparently the library no longer keeps our lists of books reserved as they used to do. It's well into the hundreds (keep in mind, I do not have a day job or children, I'm on permament disability with lots of time on my hands) and maybe more.
Wish list books - there are always books I want to read new mysteries coming out from Stuart Kaminsky, Barb Seranella (after her um, brush with okay okay, let's say serious illness to avoid cliche), Steven Havill, Loren Estleman, a new Mccone from Marcia Muller, a new Sookie Stackhouse from Charlaine Harris and a new one from Ann Parker who wrote Silver Lies, which was very good. The books I'm most looking forward to reading next year are James Sallis' Cripple Creek (the follow up to his Cypress Grove), and A Field of Darkness by Cornelia Read, which I admit to having read in manuscript and was totally crazy about. It's already on my "best of 2006" list as is Stephen White's brilliant Kill Me, which I read an early copy of.

I used to give books but no one liked them, except for the one I got for my cousin Adam (History of Nascar, with lots of pics!!!) I don't usually get many books as gifts either.

I've never counted, but I think I'm going to start this year.

    3. Any reading material on your wish list this year?

I'm currently in the midst of two obsessions: Classics and Star Trek. But, basically I just want to take time out to read more this year. :)
